Dr Sarah Whitfield
OSCE examiner and medical educator who has run more than 120 mock circuits. Sarah's communication frameworks are the backbone of the OSCE programme.
Prepare for the MRCEM OSCE with EMHub’s scenario-based study materials. Organised around the relevant Specialty Learning Outcomes (SLOs), the course helps you practise the clinical, communication and professional skills needed across a wide range of emergency department encounters.
Work through common presentations such as chest pain, breathlessness, abdominal pain, collapse and acute confusion. Practise answering clinical questions, explaining investigations and treatment choices, and involving patients in decisions. Resuscitation and trauma scenarios focus on structured assessment, prioritisation, teamwork and escalation, while paediatric cases include acute illness, injury and safeguarding concerns.
Procedural stations cover preparation, technique and safety for skills such as airway management, vascular access, chest drains, wound care and immobilisation. You will also encounter challenging conversations involving consent, capacity, mental health, complaints, medical error and end-of-life care. Supervision and teaching scenarios help you practise giving feedback and supporting colleagues.
Each scenario includes a structured transcript, the examiner’s expectations and a topic summary. Together, these show how to approach the station, communicate your reasoning and recognise the points an examiner may assess. Use the materials to rehearse a clear, safe approach while developing the flexibility to respond to the patient and situation in front of you.
This course is not a question bank. Each OSCE scenario takes you through a station as it runs in the exam: the scenario you are given, how the marks are distributed across the assessed domains, a full transcript of the conversation between the candidate and the actor(s), what the examiner expects to see, and a topic summary with key pearls.
