FRCEM Final OSCE

The FRCEM OSCE is the final practical hurdle on the path to Fellowship.

Course overview

The FRCEM OSCE is the final practical hurdle on the path to Fellowship. It tests how you assess patients, make decisions, communicate and lead in situations faced by senior emergency physicians. EMHub’s study materials are organised around all 12 Specialty Learning Outcomes (SLOs) to support preparation across the breadth of the examination.

Clinical stations cover history taking, complex assessment, investigation interpretation and evidence-based decision-making. Resuscitation and trauma scenarios develop your approach to cardiac arrest, shock, advanced airway management and major injury, including resuscitation command and team communication. Paediatric stations address critical illness, trauma, communication with families and safeguarding, while procedural stations focus on preparation, technique and safety.

The course also includes difficult conversations and departmental prioritisation stations. Practise managing uncertainty, ethical and legal problems, mental health presentations, staffing pressures and major incidents. Leadership stations explore running the emergency department as the emergency physician in charge (EPIC). Further topics include supervision, feedback, teaching, critical appraisal, quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance.

Use these materials to rehearse a structured approach, explain your reasoning clearly and demonstrate the judgement expected at consultant level.

How it works

This course is not a question bank. Each OSCE scenario takes you through a station as it runs in the exam: the scenario you are given, how the marks are distributed across the assessed domains, a full transcript of the conversation between the candidate and the actor(s), what the examiner expects to see, and a topic summary with key pearls.
